A female caregiver nurse suddenly finds herself jobless and on the streets as soon as she was tested positive for COVID – 19. She’s forced to roam the streets along with her belongings.

According to her, she said that she went to a health center in Barangay Olympia, but they denied her. She also shared that she wanted to go home to Batangas, but she could not due to the lockdown.

In a report by Mariz Umali of 24 Oras, she was found in a corner along South Avenue and JP Rizal of Makati City. She’s now isolated at Quezon Institute in Quezon City.

Currently, Mayor Abigail Binay has started an investigation as a violation for City Ordinance No. 2020-087, which is about acts of discrimination such as forced eviction and restrictions in housing and lodging against people who are not only infected with COVID – 19, but also with communicable illnesses are not allowed. Violators will pay P5,000 for first and second offenses and if found guilty, they will have an additional year in jail for the succeeding offenses.

Makati City government spokesperson Atty. Michael Camiña said that this case should be a wake up call for different sectors to cooperate with one another. “Dapat lahat alam ‘yong ginagawa at hindi lang ‘yong particular sector kasi ang nangyari dito dahil sarado ‘yong mismong health care center. Hindi as informed ‘yong barangay official or barangay personnel na nandoon na baka hindi niya alam ‘yong proper protocol.”

Meanwhile, PRC Chairman Sen. Richard Gordon said that the landlady, barangay official and the company where the nurse had worked were the real culprit to the problem. “Dapat bayanihan nga eh tutulungan. Tapos ‘yong barangay na pinuntahan niya sinabi, ‘Wala kaming maitutulong sayo, tawagan mo itong number na ‘to kung saan ‘yon ‘yong epidemiology service na operation.’ Dapat ‘yong kompanya, hindi na muna siya pinaalis doon. Sinecure na muna siya doon hanggang makakuha siya ng tulong kung saang isolation ward siya dadalhin,”

Networks such as GMA News have reached out to the landlady, barangay official of Barangay Olympia, and the company of the nurse, but they have yet to respond regarding the matter.
